The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
