The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
