The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
